Lessons and finger guide
Lessons are structured and progressive: the early ones stay on the home-row keys, and later lessons add new keys a few at a time. As each letter appears, the finger-placement guide shows which finger should strike it, so you can keep your eyes on the screen instead of looking down at your hands. That structure is what teaches touch typing; the WPM number only measures what the lessons build.
