What Slide Transition Preview does, with a checked example

This tool plays slide transitions - fade, slide, zoom, and morph - so you can watch and compare them before committing one to a deck. You pick the effect, and it animates two sample slides so you can judge how fast, smooth, or distracting the motion reads. The surprise most people hit: a transition that looks good in the preview can feel wrong on real slides. Morph only moves elements the two slides actually share, and text-dense slides make effects read faster or busier than the samples suggest. Treat the preview as the look-and-feel test, then re-check against your actual content.

The two slides crossfade: the outgoing slide's opacity falls from 100% to 0% while the incoming slide's rises from 0% to 100% over the same interval. The screen is never blank, and the two slides are never both at full strength; the middle of the effect is a blend of both.

Fade is defined as an opacity crossfade between the two slides, so this interpolation is exactly what the preview renders for the effect: outgoing content loses opacity as incoming content gains it.

One effect, two slides, interpolated properties

Each transition animates visual properties between the outgoing and incoming slide over a duration: fade interpolates opacity, slide translates one slide across another, zoom scales content in or out. The preview plays that interpolation on sample slides, so you compare the animation itself, not your content. Easing and speed matter more than which effect you picked - motion that accelerates and settles reads better than a constant-speed drag.

Morph rearranges; it does not wipe

Morph finds elements present in both slides and animates their position, size, and style, so content appears to reshape itself between the two frames. Elements found in only one slide fade in or out instead of moving. Because smoothness depends on matching elements, morph's preview is only as representative as the slide pair you test: two slides that share no objects will morph into little more than a crossfade.

Good uses

  • Choosing between fade and a directional slide for an image-heavy deck, to see which reads as a calm continuation instead of a cut between photos.
  • Standardizing transitions across a multi-section deck: compare several effects at the same duration so the deck does not alternate between sluggish and jarring.
  • Deciding whether a morph is worth the setup: check how the effect handles slides whose layout changes before rebuilding deck objects so matching elements exist.

Common questions

Why does the morph preview look smoother than the morph in my own deck?

Because morph animates only elements that exist in both slides. If your slide pair shares no objects, there is nothing to rearrange and the effect collapses toward a fade. The preview demonstrates morph with matching elements present; before expecting that smoothness, confirm your real slides contain corresponding objects in roughly matching positions.

How long should a transition last?

There is no universal answer, and that is the point of the preview: short durations read as quick topic changes, long ones draw attention to the motion itself and make a deck feel slow. Compare the same effect at two durations and judge against your content - text-heavy slides need less time than large images. Decide by eye, not by rule of thumb.
