Deriving pace from distance and time
Pace is elapsed time divided by distance in 100-unit blocks: 1500 m swum in 31:30 is 1890 seconds over 15 blocks, or 126 seconds (2:06) per 100 m. Total time multiplies the same ratio back out, so a 400 m swim is 4 x 126 = 504 seconds. Splits, race totals, and open-water leg estimates are all that one number reused.
