Convert text to Unicode Braille characters and back with grade 1 and grade 2 support.
Turn ordinary text into Unicode Braille pattern characters, or translate those characters back into readable text. Select grade 1 for uncontracted Braille or grade 2 for forms that can shorten common words and letter groups. Grade 2 therefore depends on context rather than a simple character-for-character substitution. The common surprise is that Unicode Braille is a digital representation of dot cells. It can be copied as text, but displaying the symbols on a screen does not make the result tactile.

With Text to Braille and grade 1 selected, c becomes dots 1-4, a becomes dot 1, and t becomes dots 2-3-4-5. Their Unicode Braille characters are placed consecutively.
With Text to Braille and grade 1 selected, ordinary letters are represented by their corresponding Braille cells. Braille indicators handle distinctions that do not have a dedicated cell, such as a following capital or number. In the reverse direction, the translator reads those cells and indicators as grade 1 text.
In grade 2, some whole words and letter groups can be represented by contractions, so the same cell can be interpreted differently according to position and neighboring cells. Selecting grade 2 tells the translator to apply those contextual forms when encoding and to expand recognized contractions when decoding.
No. Unicode Braille characters record which dots are raised in each cell and allow those patterns to be stored or copied as text. Actual tactile output requires suitable embossing equipment, layout settings, and proofreading. A visually correct translation from this tool is not, by itself, confirmation that a physical Braille document will be usable.
Grade 2 permits contractions for certain words and letter groups, while grade 1 generally writes words without those contractions. The translator can therefore represent the same text with fewer cells in grade 2. This does not mean arbitrary abbreviations are being added; the interpretation depends on the selected Braille grade and context.
